A new slide scanner was donated by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York. The scanner was installed in the Research laboratory of the Department of Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria on 11th July 2021. The installation included the setting up of a new server and Local Area Network. The Motic company representative from the United States of America came to Ile-Ife, Nigeria for the installation and training on the use of the equipment. The department and the hospital were incredibly grateful for the huge financial commitment.
The new installation introduced the practice of digital pathology services to our scope of work and made us one of the very few centers in Nigeria with this facility. Motic successfully registered seven members of staff on the Telepathology network. This has facilitated online consultations, virtual clinical meetings and opened new scope of research activities and international collaboration. It has helped in quality assurance programs. It will be useful for international training programs soon.
